A cable tray is a continuous horizontal perch running directly above the working floor. It is also nobody's job — which is why it is usually the last thing treated and the first thing to cause a complaint.

Cable tray falls between two trades. The electrical contractor installs the tray and considers bird control out of scope. The bird control contractor quotes the roof steel and does not see the tray on the structural drawing, because it is on the electrical layout. The result is a treated roof with an untreated perch three metres above the production floor.
That position is what makes it worse than it sounds. Roof steel is high enough that droppings mostly land on other steel. A cable tray sits low, over aisles, machines and packing lines, so everything it drops lands where people work.
Ask for the electrical layout, not just the structural one
Tray routes are on the electrical drawings. If your bird control quote was built from structural drawings alone, the trays are almost certainly not in it.

Narrow strips along both side rails. This is the bulk of every cable tray job.
Preferred. No drilling into tray, no interference with the earthing or the cabling.
Where clipping is not practical. Needs a clean, degreased rail to bond properly.
Wash-down areas and humid plants corrode mild steel quickly at tray level.
Wide solid covers are a flat surface in their own right and need spiking on top.
Nothing goes in among the cables. Treatment is on the rails and covers only.
