An anti bird net is a mesh stretched tight across an opening and anchored to fixing points around its edge. Unlike spikes, which make a surface uncomfortable, a net physically excludes birds from a space. Nothing entangles or injures the bird — a properly tensioned net is a barrier, not a trap.
That distinction matters for choosing the right product. Spikes protect a surface. A net closes a volume. If pigeons are landing on your railing, spikes are cheaper and less visible. If they are flying into the balcony and nesting behind the AC unit, no amount of spiking on the railing will stop them.
A slack net is worse than none
This is the single biggest failure we see. A loose net sags, birds land on it, push through the gap at the edge, and then get caught between the net and the wall. Tension and proper edge fixing are not optional details — they are the installation.
Pigeon exclusion needs a different aperture from sparrow exclusion. Get this wrong and small birds simply pass through a net that cost you a weekend.
Netting exposed to Indian sun degrades quickly if it is not UV-treated. Ours is specified for continuous outdoor exposure.
Cut to the opening rather than folded to fit. Folds and overlaps are exactly where birds find their way in.
Anchors, wire rope and turnbuckles so the perimeter is closed and the mesh can be re-tensioned later if it relaxes.
A correctly tensioned net reads as a faint line rather than a curtain. Colour is chosen against the elevation behind it.
A tight net excludes birds cleanly. It is the slack ones that cause entanglement — which is why tension is the whole job.
Three decisions determine whether a net works. None of them is the price.
Chosen by the bird being excluded. A mesh that stops pigeons will not stop sparrows, and a mesh fine enough for sparrows carries more wind load and needs stronger fixing. Tell us which bird is the problem before anything else.
The perimeter is where nets fail. Concrete, brickwork, steel truss and glazing each need a different anchor. Rented balconies may need a non-drilling approach, which changes the design.
The net must be pulled tight and stay tight, which means turnbuckles or a wire rope perimeter rather than tying it off. High or awkward openings also need an access plan before anyone quotes a price.
