Chennai runs on a different calendar from the rest of India. The main rain arrives with the north-east monsoon in October, not June — so the right months to do this work here are the opposite of the right months in Mumbai. Get that wrong and the fixings pay for it.

Most of India does this work between October and May, because the south-west monsoon occupies June to September. Chennai gets comparatively little from that monsoon and takes its main rainfall from the north-east monsoon in October to December — exactly the months a Mumbai or Delhi supplier would recommend.
Anything fixed to damp masonry fails, so the practical calendar here is:

This is why the fixing method is not negotiable here
Chennai sits on a cyclone-exposed coast. Wind accelerates over a roof edge or parapet, and a run that is holding fine in ordinary weather is a different proposition in a storm.
An installation that lets go at that height does not merely stop working — sections come down into a street. On exposed edges, upper floors and anything above an entrance or pavement, mechanical fixing is the correct specification and adhesive alone is not.
It also rules out the improvised remedies: wire, string and pinned-down mesh along a roof edge come adrift, and they come adrift over the road.

Salt and ultraviolet at the same time is an unusual combination — inland cities get the sun without the salt, and cooler coastal places get the salt without this much sun. Chennai gets both, which is why material grade matters here more than the price difference between suppliers.
Chennai's residential stock leans more toward independent houses and low-rise blocks with usable flat terraces than toward the balcony-dominated high-rise pattern of Mumbai. That shifts the typical job:

Poor-grade metal will, and it streaks rust down the wall. Ours are polycarbonate with no metal in them, which is the right specification for a salt-air coast.
Then it is a parapet, water tank and sunshade job rather than a netting one. It is also the cheapest kind of work on any building, because you reach it by the stairs — so do every surface in one visit.
Include it. The gap under an array is the best nesting cavity on any roof, and the cost of ignoring it shows up in your generation figures.
That is common here. The sill is just catching what falls, so spiking it alone changes nothing — the sunshade is what needs treating.
