Salt-laden air reaches well inland from the coast, and it attacks metal continuously rather than seasonally. On a bird control installation that shows up in two ways: the pins themselves corrode, and rust runs down the wall below in streaks that are far more visible from the road than the product ever was.

Kabutarkhanas and pigeon density
Mumbai has long-established designated pigeon-feeding places, and the health effects of concentrated pigeon populations — particularly respiratory complaints associated with dried droppings — have been publicly debated in the city for years.
Whatever position you take on that, the practical point for a building near one is simple: local pigeon density is high and will stay high. Physical exclusion still works exactly as well on the surfaces you protect. What changes is that partial treatment fails faster, because there are always more birds looking for the ledges you left.
